Throughout the 10 years of my job as a cabinet maker and supply more than 2000 cabinet. Yes there are almost 80% of the cabinet I made require certain type of table top. When should I use solid surface? In order to do explain this I will have to tell you a bit history about the solid surface. From the period of year 2008-2015 , solid surface is widely use in cabinetry industries. At that time granite and solid surface is the only option and the wood top is seldom use by people due to its low resistant to water.
It is important to know the component that made out of solid surface.

As you can see acrylic and polyester resin is the main component that form solid surface while the pigment responsible to create colour and design. ** The more acrylic the more shining and more flexibility the solid surface sheet will be. Acrylic is an expensive raw material therefore most of the factory tend to mix more polyester resin than the acrylic for residential used solid surface. There is a case if the design require solid surface sheet to be heated and bend into different dimension, we will have to use more acrylic based sheet.

Up until today solid surface can make different texture by using different resin or mix with some special pigments. Translucent solid surface normally use at places require lighting to penetrate for instance bar, cafe or any display cabinet.

Use Solid Surface When /
1. You need a special design that require curve or any special shape .
2. When you have not enough budget left for granite as solid surface is relative cheaper compare to granite
3. When you want a long continued table top that looks in one big piece.
4. Nice and smooth backsplash and edging.
TRY NOT TO:
5. Choose black colour base solid surface because any scratches will show in white visible line.
6. Choose your material supplier carefully and ask the quality is assured as low quality solid surface will lead to absorption of stain very easily.
7. Avoid chopping or any heavy work near joining area. Although you will not realise where is the joining part. It is better to ask the fabricator.
